About Game Breeding

The basic principles of successful breeding are enforced:

  • handpicked males and females,
  • regular rotation of gene pools,
  • optimum nutrition,
  • maintenance of natural habitat and lots of attention.

Situated in the Limpopo province near Mokopane, known as severe heartwater area, you will find Amatava Game Breeders. Father and son, Chris and Laurence Erasmus, started as far back as 2004, breeding with Nyalas. In 2009 they expanded their breeding projects to include Sables, Black Impalas, Golden Wildebeest and Springbok.

Today they are also the proud owners of genetics from Percy Fyfe Roans and Buffalo from top breeders such as Haakdoring Game Breeders, Buffalo creek (Prime Genetics), Shambala and son’s of 46″ Gert and Wes from Buffelsvlei

Chris and Laurence are excited about the new addition to their breeding programs namely: Small game.

Species to fall under this will be duiker, steenbok and  klipspringers.

Experience and lessons learned molded Chris and Laurence into very successful, yet humble game breeders today. Animals are bred tough and mortality is rare. Amatava believes in progression with the focus on sustainability, hence using specialized and scientific techniques to maintain top animal condition, improve genetic material and accelerate calving/lambing cycles. All aspects of their business are well-planned and managed with costs and resale value in mind.

Animals are delivered directly from the breeder’s farm onto the buyer’s farm with minimum stress on the animals. A pre-sale farm visit allows buyers to view and judge the animals they wish to purchase in their natural environments, as well as having the opportunity to view the mother stock and sires.
